Tall buildings present many challenges - also with respect to the fire brigade intervention.
Extinguishing fires, rescue of persons, navigating in a building, as well as securing the water supply in the upper floors differs from the intervention in traditional lower buildings. Above a certain height it is not possible to use fire brigade turntable ladders for the rescue, hence, the time used to rescue people increases.
The scenario, where the firefighter needs to access the building to enable the rescue of individuals should be accounted for, when developing the fire safety design. Fire Brigade Intervention Methods (FBIM) can be used to describe the time development of the procedure of the intervention of the fire services.
More input is needed for the application of this method, especially, when it is applied in regional and national context.
