Fire Safety

Fire safety is an area, where research from DTU has a massive impact on building design in practise through innovation and supplementary education, and by establishing a basis for acceptance in terms of changes for Building Regulations, new guidelines, and consultancy of ministries and local authorities. 

Introducing fire safety design based on the laws of nature instead of previous experience-related rules; a variety of buildings with new architectural possibilities has appeared.  

The research plan comprises methods and data for design by means of function-based fire-safety requirements, design methods for structures exposed by fully developed fires, fire models including CFD-models, and self-ignition. Research, development, teaching, and authority service is made in close co-operation with industry, comprising consultants, manufactures, fire brigades, communities, and ministries in Denmark and abroad. the research is conducted in  areas:
