Architectural Engineering

Research in design of buildings supports the education in civil engineering and architectural engineering. Building technique including load-bearing structures, building physics, acoustics, fire technology, etc. constitutes together with construction management a technical basis for the physical materialization, which can convey artistic intensions through architecture. The final shape of a building is found by a process of synthesis, where artistic expression, the buildings applicability, and the laws of nature are considered simultaneously.

New unconventional solutions to this complex problem are treated, and tools and methods are developed, which can support early phases of the process of building design.

Solutions are proposed and investigated with new structures and details, new structural systems and static models with optimal geometries, new production methods, and new conceptions of the functionality of buildings.

For example, new resource saving, super light concrete structures are developed, and their new possibilities for the applications are investigated.
