Transport and fixation

The porosity of construction materials as concrete, masonry and wood has significant impact on the engineering properties of these materials, as the pores provide a means of interaction between the materials and their surroundings. Examples could be absorption/desorption of moisture, or transport of salts into or towards the surface of the material. The present research theme is focused on both the intended and the unintended fixation and transport of matter within the porous materials.

Increased knowledge of the relevant binding and transport mechanisms combined with geometry and surface properties aid in both designing construction materials and in developing new and improved methods for repair and maintenance of existing structures.
